How to Remove a Vent Window on a Car

When smoking was more popular and air-conditioning wasnt affordable, car manufacturers used to make cars with vent windows in the corners of the front window area to allow extra ventilation into the cab. Over time, the manufacturers have veered away from this system to a cleaner-looking one-piece window, but some of those older cars are still around. If the vent window in your car is broken, it can be fixed with the right tools.

Instructions

    1

Unscrew the door panel from the door using the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the panel off to expose the inside of the door.

    2

Make an imaginary line vertically down the edge where the vent window meets the full window. There is a bolt on the door thats along this line. Unbolt it using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket to release the bottom part of the vent window.

    3

Unscrew the two Phillips screws in the doorjamb on the angled side of the vent window using a Phillips screwdriver. Then roll down the main window on the car. Tilt the vent window toward the main window and pull it slowly out of the door, being careful not to damage the original glass.
